Päivi Nevalainen
My research concentrates on neurophysiological biomarkers of epilepsy and early brain injury. I apply novel analysis strategies to clinical neurophysiological data, including electroencephalography (EEG), magnetoencephalography (MEG) and intracranial EEG (mostly stereo-EEG), in an attempt to find new markers that could improve diagnostics and inform treatment decision in patients with perinatal brain injury or epilepsy.

I am mostly involved in neurodevelopmental studies on learning and language devevelopment in both typically developing children and children at risk (e.g. dyslexia, preterm birth)

My main research interests relate to the neural basis of language, its development and developmental disorders, as well as plasticity. I use a multimethodological approach in my studies, including electro- and magnetoencephalography, magnetic resonance imaging, neurocognitive and behavioural tests, and DNA analysis.
