My main research interests relate to the neural basis of language, its development and developmental disorders, as well as plasticity. I use a multimethodological approach in my studies, including electro- and magnetoencephalography, magnetic resonance imaging, neurocognitive and behavioural tests, and DNA analysis.

My research has investigated neurobiology of neurodevelopmental disorders, especially autism spectrum disorder, using fragile X syndrome (FXS) as a model disease. We have shown that the absence of FMR1 protein affects differentiation of human and mouse FXS neural progenitors leading changes in calcium dynamics and functional responses of differentiated neuronal cells.

Our research strategy is based on an integrative approach, where physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms are investigated from the molecular and cellular level to the whole organism. We also aim to bring a strong evolutionary perspective in the study of CNS disorders.
